| On this page you'll find one of my latest toys. A 1961 Dodge Polara. It has a 361 CI motor and a push button automatic. The interior is in fairly good shape for the age of the car. I just need to clean the heck out of it, and other then the back of the rear seat being pretty bad, because of the huge "greenhouse" that they car the rear window, its really pretty nice (the headliner is in need of help to...the one interior shot shows a piece of the headliner laying on the seat). The car does show only 34000 miles on it, and I have to believe that it's true, because the gas pedal and brake pedal show very little wear...I know what the pedals look like with over a hundred thousand on them, and these don't look like it. As you can see in some of the pictures the body is a little rough around the edges, but all in all it's not to bad....nothing a few pieces of metal and my welder won't fix (ok the sander is going to get a hell of a work out too). My origional plans were to clean it up, add some fresh shiny paint and put a set of 16 or 17 inch wheels on it and drop it just a little more, and go cruising with it. That may well be what happens, but I saw pictures of a Polara with a 61 Plymouth front end on it...(really looks sharpe Paul), and I'm not sure if the country is ready for another one like it, but I'm still seriously thinking about it. The guy who is doing the Plymouth front end on his Polara, happens to be as close to an expert on these cars as I think I'll ever meet. He sent me some pictures of a 61 convertible he restored a few years ago...an absolutely beautiful job!!! He also says that Canada actually produced a few Polaras with the Plymouth front end. Anyway, enough rambling here for now. I'll add pics as I get further along with the body work and and as it's getting ready for the summer cruising season. |
